The MIM-23 HAWK (Homing All the Way Killer) is a ground-to-air missile system developed in the US in the late 1950s and officially designated the MIM-23 in June of 1963. Due to its advanced target detection, tracking system and portable control unit, the MIM-23 was considered a highly-effective mobile defense against enemy aircraft, cruise missiles, and short-range tactical missiles. Used by many NATO and other countries, more than 40,000 of the MIM-23 variants have been produced around the world.
