PT-109 - 80' Motor Torpedo Boat

About the PT-109 80′ Motor Torpedo Boat:

The PT-109 was a Motor Torpedo boat last commanded by Lieutenant, Junior Grade John F. Kennedy in the Pacific Theater during WWII.  PT-109 belonged to the PT-103 class, hundreds of which were completed between 1942 and 1945. It was transported from the Norfolk Navy Yard to the South Pacific in August 1942, and arrived at the Soloman Islands in late 1942. PT-109 participated in combat operations around Guadalcanal between December 1942 and February 1943, when the Japanese withdrew from the island.

PT-109 participated in many night time patrols against the “Tokyo Express,” which was the name given to the naval vessels that brought supplies to the Japanese troops on Guadalcanal. On one such patrol, around 2am on August 2, 1943, PT-109 was motionless in the water, with idling engines to avoid detection of her wake by Japanese aircraft. Out of the nearly pitch black darkness suddenly appeared the looming bow of the Japanese destroyer Amagiri. Unable to gain enough speed to avoid collision, PT-109 was struck midship, sawing the smaller PT-boat in two and rupturing the fuel tanks containing hundreds of gallons of highly-flammable 100 octane aviation gasoline. The collision resulted in a spectacular explosion and fireball prompting nearby witnesses to believe the entire crew of PT-109 was lost. All nearby American forces withdrew from the area without searching for survivors.

Miraculously, eleven of the thirteen crewmen survived the explosion, although several were severely wounded. Trapped deep inside enemy territory, PT-109’s skipper, LTJG John F. Kennedy, faced the nearly impossible task of saving his crew from both the enemy and the elements. For several days, the survivors hid from the Japanese by day on nearby deserted island, which Kennedy foraged for supplies and searched for friendly forces by night. After six days Kennedy was able to send word of PT-109’s survivors to his home base, via message carved into a coconut husk. This was carried by a pair of Solomon Island native scouts, who paddled a dugout canoe some forty miles to the American base. This would become one of the most famous survival tales of World War II and helped propel John F Kennedy into the national spotlight.

Normandy Bunker - German WWII Atlantic Wall Defensive Position

About the Normandy Bunker:
Used in the German defense of Normandy, France, on June 6, 1944, these structures are a permanent reminder of the carnage of D-Day. Though few remain completely intact now, back in their time the bunkers offered a strong defensive position and elevation that gave German machine gunners an immense advantage while attempting to stop the oncoming Allied invasion. They also provided protection from Allied bombers prior to the invasion. Similar bunkers were located on Omaha, Sword, Juno, Gold and Utah beaches.

Additional Information:
The Brickmania Normandy Bunker kit features a fully detailed multilevel interior with crew quarters and a dual MG42 nest, and it easily separates for added playability. 8.8cm Flak 36 - Anti-Aircraft Anti-Tank Gun

About the 8.8 cm FlaK 36:

First created in 1934, the FlaK 18 or German 88 was developed in secret to avoid the restrictions of the Treaty of Versailles in 1919. The improved FlaK 36 followed soon after and became a favorite among German Army personnel because of its ability to slice through armor as far as 1,800 meters away. Though mostly used for air defense, the FlaK 36 saw some action as an anti-tank weapon as well, although its size and weight made it difficult to transport across uneven or soft terrain.

Later in the war, the FlaK 36 was mounted on railway cars and vehicles and was even used as the main weapon in the heavily armored German Tiger Tank.

Additional Information:
Brickmania’s latest FlaK 36 kit features new ambush camo and a traversable gun that rotates a full 360° and elevates to 90°.

Model Statistics:

  • Designed by Daniel Siskind
  • 134 LEGO® and BrickArms® elements
  • Full-color printed building instructions
  • BrickArms® 76mm Barrel – Dark Tan

M4 Sherman - Allied Medium Tank (2018)

About the M4 Sherman:

Perhaps the best known Allied tank during World War II, the M4 Sherman was designed to replace the M3 Lee. Named for the eccentric Union General William T. Sherman, the Sherman medium tank was mass produced to help offset better-armed German tanks such as the Tiger and Panther. The American war machine produced over 50,000 Sherman tanks between 1941 and 1945.

The Sherman chassis was used for several dozen different variants. Among these variants, several were specialized for mine clearance, rocket battery, or as a self-propelled howitzer. The standard M4 Sherman was equipped with a Continental R975 gasoline-powered engine and could achieve a top speed of 21 miles per hour. Stock Sherman examples were armed with two machine guns and a 75mm cannon, the Sherman could handle all but the heaviest German tanks. Although they struggled against German armor, the Allies found success in overwhelming the slower German tanks by often deploying five or more Sherman tanks against the same target.

The Sherman was also deployed during the Korean War but was eventually replaced by the M46 Patton.

Specifications:

  • Engine: Continental R975 C1 radial petrol
  • Speed: 21 mph (34 km/h)

M5A1 Stuart - World War II Light Tank

About the M5A1 Stuart – World War II Light Tank:

Another successful American tank design, the M5A1 Stuart was the result of extensive testing and refinement. The need for a reliable light tank became apparent to the US Army after the success of German blitzkrieg campaigns in 1939–40. As other European nations struggled to catch up with the German war machine, the United States began work in 1940 to replace the small M2 light tank.

The M5A1 was the second production model in the M5 family. Powered by dual Cadillac engines, this model began production around the time the United States entered the war in 1941. Much like the Sherman, the Stuart appeared in almost all theaters of the war. Armed with a 37mm gun, the Stuart was used primarily for reconnaissance and support, but it was used in combat against smaller Japanese tanks in the Pacific. Built in Detroit, Cadillac produced almost 7,000 Stuarts for the U.S. Army until June 1944 when it was replaced by the M24 Chaffee.

Specifications:

  • Crew: 4
  • Speed: 37 mph (60 km/h)
  • Range: 100 mi (161 km)
  • Engine: 2x Cadillac Series 42 V-8
  • Armament: 37mm M6 gun, 3x 7.62 machine guns
  • Radio: SCR 508

6 Pounder 57mm Anti-Tank Gun

About the 6 Pounder 57mm Anti-Tank Gun

First used in 1942 during the Battle of Gazala, the Ordnance Quick-Firing 6-pounder, or simply 6 Pounder, fired a 57mm projectile that exited the barrel at an impressive 2,700 feet per second and, against German armor such as the Panzer IV, had an effective range of just over 1,600 feet. Used primarily by US and British forces, the 6 pounder was an incredibly versatile anti-tank gun that outfitted a number of tanks and armored vehicles as well as functioning as a six-man artillery unit that could be towed across different terrain surfaces.

M4 Sherman Crab - Mine Flail Pack for M4 Sherman (BKM2184)

This add-on pack is designed to accompany the M4 Sherman (2018) kit.

About the M4 Sherman Crab – Mine Flail

Commonly referred to as a mine flail, the Sherman Crab Special Purpose Mine Flail Tank Tracked Support Vehicle had the ability to clear a path for troops while destroying anti-personnel mines. First tested in North Africa during WWII, the design featured more than 40 individual chains that rotated rapidly across two extended arms. While in motion, the flailing chains would activate hidden mines, causing them to detonate and leaving a clear path for the main supporting force. Though effective in certain situations, the Crab limited some of the more mobile aspects of the Sherman, such as turn radius and trench crossing, and it was not as effective across uneven terrain.

The Crab add-on pack for the M4 Sherman features a spinnable flail and fully posable arms that easily connect to the latest Brickmania M4 Sherman – Allied Medium Tank. Some conversion may be necessary if using an older Brickmania Sherman model.

All Brickmania model kits are made of new-condition LEGO bricks. This model comes disassembled and includes complete printed building instructions and comes packaged in a sealed box. This is a limited-edition kit and production may be discontinued at any time.

WWII US Army Ranger - 2nd Rangers at Pointe du Hoc

About the WWII US Army Ranger – 2nd Rangers at Pointe du Hoc

One of the most infamous assaults in Operation Overlord, the taking of Pointe du Hoc provided an essential position for Allied forces to solidify their foothold in France. Located atop a 100-foot cliff, the German defenses had a perfect artillery placement to fire on American forces invading at Omaha and Utah beaches. It was up to Lt. Col. James E. Rudder and the 2nd Ranger battalion to climb the monstrous cliffs and capture the German artillery units. Despite excruciating casualties, the Rangers captured the guns and defended them for two days. When they were finally relieved by Allied forces, just 90 of the initial 225 Rangers still stood combat ready.

The WWII Pointe du Hoc US Army Ranger minifig features 360° UV printed Normandy assault gear, Ranger sleeve insignia, and 2nd Battalion Rangers emblem on the helmet. This minifig was designed by Lando and custom printed at Brickmania HQ.
